If you pay for cleaning help at home in Luxembourg, the tax office will effectively give part of it back. The abattement forfaitaire pour frais de domesticité lets you deduct up to €5,400 per year (€450 per month) from your taxable income.
What qualifies
- A cleaner or household employee you employ directly, declared to the CCSS (social security)
- Home help and care services in case of dependency
- Childcare costs
The costs must be documented — declared employment or proper invoices. Undeclared cash cleaning does not qualify, which is one more reason to hire through a registered company.
How much is it worth?
The abattement reduces your taxable income, so the real saving depends on your marginal tax rate. At a marginal rate of 40%, a full €5,400 deduction is worth roughly €2,160 a year.
€6,000 on the horizon
On 6 January 2026 the government presented its family package (« Mateneen »), which proposes raising this ceiling from €5,400 to €6,000. Important: this is a proposal — it still has to pass Parliament and was announced to phase in over the next two years. We will update this guide when it becomes law.
How to claim
Enter the costs in your annual tax return under « Abattements » — frais de domesticité. Keep CCSS statements or company invoices as proof. Details on impotsdirects.public.lu.
